You've Said Yes, Now What?

The top 5 things you need to do FIRST after you’ve become engaged.

Becoming engaged can easily be classified as one of the top 10 moments in a woman’s life. All the dreams you’ve had of your wedding day and how you would look in your beautiful dress are finally coming true! But I bet you’re wondering where to start to successfully (and sanely) make it to your big day. We’ve had the pleasure of putting together a list of the top 5 things that you should do first after you get engaged, check them out below!

(These are in no specific order, you can choose to do these things in the order you see fit)

#1 – Decide on a budget.

Before you do anything else, you want to decide on a budget. Setting a budget allows you to know what kind of options you will have when deciding on the logistics. Deciding on a budget can also include deciding on how many people you’re going to invite as this could have a huge impact on the budget as well. If you aren’t remotely sure of what is a reasonable budget for your wedding, you can start with researching some of things you want your wedding to have. Whatever you do, set your budget FIRST.

#2 – Set the Date.

Let me warn you, this sounds a lot easier than it actually is. Choosing a wedding date requires a little more thought than you would initially think but there are several things to take into consideration when choosing your wedding date. The weather is one of the biggest things you want to think about. Depending on what type of wedding you want, it may have to take place during a certain season. For example, if you’ve always dreamed of a beautiful beach wedding, it might not be too beautiful in December in the middle of the winter. Another thing to think about when considering your wedding date is your flowers. Certain flowers may not be available during certain seasons. Lastly, with picking a date, you want to consider any major holidays that may be coming up before the date or after it. Again, an easy way to decide what your wedding date should be is making a list of all the things you want your wedding to include!

#3 – Pick your wedding party.

This for most brides is usually a no brainer, you’ve got your close friends, maybe a sister or two you’re your favorite cousin. Your fiancé may choose the same. Don’t forget you have to choose a maid of honor and he has to choose a best man. Make sure whoever you choose are people that you hold near and dear and that you want there to support you on this new chapter of your life.

#4 – Pick your venue.

Picking a venue is a very critical and important step as you can’t send out those cute save the dates until you know where the big party is going to happen!  Searching for venues can be a bit tedious but also extremely fun! There are so many options for wedding venues just about everywhere! Some have all inclusive packages and some let you do everything how you want. I also suggest touring the venue you’d like to use so you can be familiar with the place and any requirements there may be.

#5 – Save the dates!

Now that we’ve got a few of the basics covered, we can let everyone know when the big show is going to happen and where! When it comes to save the dates, the sky is the limit, you can make them look however you want. I’ve even seen where people have made theirs into refrigerator magnets so you can make sure you don’t forget! However you decide to do them, make sure they include the date and the location of your big day!

Congratulations beautiful! I hope this helps get you started in preparing for your big day!
